2008 Till Sjöss - Chalmers Kammarkör - 05 - Vakna Först i Sommartid

The song is “Woke up in the Summer Time” in English. It is so hard for to translate the lyrics, my Swedish is not good, and my English is not so good yet, even if I translate the lyrics, it’s also hard to understand. So today I will use some key words to introduce this song. When we are singing you can here these words “sommartid (summer time)”,”skratt (have laughed)”,”tyst (quiet)”,”drömma (dream)”,”kysst (kiss)”,”solen (the sun)”,”ros (rose)”,”önska (desired)”,”livet (the life)”…

From these words, we can imagine a beautiful summer time. Lovers are sitting in the grass, murmuring; kids are lying in their grandparents’ arms, listening to the stories, giggling and falling asleep and having a sweet dream…

In the Spring, it seems that everything is activated, you can feel lives, just stand in the sun and enjoy the weather. After the dark and cold winter here in Sweden, and also the strange April, Swedish people love summer time so much. You will see many people jogging, playing on the grass, you will be impressed that there ARE so many people in Sweden. So SUMMER should be a component of the Swedish music. We can see the two words “solen” and “önska” are very Swedish, people love the sun. “Vakna” in the title of this song makes people have a scene in their eyes that, you finally wake up from the whole winter, it’s time to enjoy the beautiful summer, you want to sing but you are afraid of break the beauties, so you sing quietly and beautifully.

The Key in this song changes many times, starts from Tenor and Base in C major, then comes Alto, then Soprano sings the melody in A major, the following is F major telling a story, finally ends in D major. It’s hard to sing without instrument’s accompany. We planed to used guitar, but the loud speaker was so low, we couldn’t hear the guitar when we were singing. Anyway, we could sing it without the guitar, and we did. :)

Please enjoy…

2008 Till Sjöss - Chalmers Kammarkör - 04 - Kråkbegravningen

This is one of my favourite songs in this concert, the style is like the Chinese ballad. Just bring you guitar and you can sing. I’ve found it was in Jojje Wadenius’s album Goda’, goda’ it’s a really beautiful song.

Only A2 sings the melody and is accompanied by “do do”, so smart! Still, the meaning of this song needs to be explored

Please enjoy…

2008 Till Sjöss - Chalmers Kammarkör - 03 - Vattendrag

Here’s the 3rd song in this concert.

vatten means water in English, and drag means stream. I can’t understand much about the lyrics, something like fish boat, water and something. Sorry for that.

All 4 singers are Tenors, there’s a girl if you can tell. Her voice is too low, so it’s better and easier for her to sing Tenor. This is first time I’ve heard about that, at least before I came to Sweden. Everyone knows girls should dress beautifully but she can’t, she has to dress as the men’s do. Anyway, we just love it, no need to care about that.

It might be so anoying of the ‘numa numa’ thing, but it’s the style of humor, it works just fine with the melody and lyrics. So it deserves the audiances’ applause.

Please enjoy…

2008 Till Sjöss - Chalmers Kammarkör - 01 - Hoist the Colors

From now on I’ll upload records of Chalmers Chamber Choir 2008 spring consert
Chalmers Chamber Choir 2008 spring consert. This concert is themed on “Let’s sail on the sea!
“,all the songs are about the sea, pirates, love and so on.

The concert started from “Hoist the Colors” which was from the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”. That little boy started the song at the beginning of the movie. Come back to our choir version, the first base and soprano have the melody. The song starts from the first base’s solo, and then the second base and tenor came in, and then came soprano and alto, finally vanished by the solo of the first base.

Lyrics:
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will we’ll roam.

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green!

The bell has been raised
from it’s watery grave…
Do you hear it’s sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.
